Kristen & Eric Neubert
Married June 30, 2007
Ouray, Colorado
We were so lucky and blessed to have the perfect weather with the quintessential Colorado mountain backdrop. My Aunt made a comment that a lot of people talk about marrying in the mountains, but we actually did it and pulled it off. I have to thank my parents for giving us the perfect day.
The Details
How long to plan the wedding: One year
Number of Guests: 55
Ceremony Site: Twin Falls in Yankee Boy Basin at 11,400 feet. My Dad sent us up to Twin Falls a year earlier. After getting engaged we decided on a mountain wedding and knew it was the perfect mountain spot to have our ceremony. The symbolism of two waterfalls turning into one, the mountain backdrop and the wildflowers was perfect. Our guests got to 4 wheel drive in open air 14 person Jeeps enjoying the ride up.
The Theme/Décor
Simple but elegant.
The Flowers
We had aspen logs holding 2 bouquets of daisies and yellow roses framing the waterfalls. My bouquet was all daisies. For the reception, we placed a single yellow rose in vases we decorated for the centerpiece.
The Food
We had an array of delicious appetizers on the patio for our cocktail hour followed by a 4-course meal in the Tundra room at the Beaumont. Everything was delicious! We added raspberries to the champagne for the toasts.
The Cake
Three layer lemon cake with a lace décor to match my dress.
The Favors
We partnered with a winery to make and bottle our own wine about 6 month before the wedding. It was so fun! We named it “Happily Ever After”. We picked an Italian Pinot Grigio to make since we got engaged in Italy.
Special Touches
1. We played the first dance song of every married couple at our wedding over dinner. It was nice to see our guests light up when ‘their’ first dance song played.
2. My grandma was our officiant. Eric and I wrote the ceremony and she delivered it beautifully, with such emotion.

3. Eric left a note under my door on the morning of our wedding day, it still makes me cry to read it. We also wrote and read our own vows during the ceremony.
4. We used wine corks glued on mosaics to hold our place cards.
5. We had a table with both of our parents wedding pictures as you walked into the reception.
6. We organized a get-together with all our guests at Billy Gruffs Biergarten the night before, it was a blast to get everyone together. We then headed over to the Ouray hot springs so all our guests could enjoy an invigorating soak under a full moon.
7. I would consider Ouray a special touch. Almost none of our guests had been there before and everyone feel in love with the town.
8. Since we didn’t need the traditional new home items, we registered for our Honeymoon – a 14-day European vacation.
My Advice
1. Personalize your wedding and do what YOU want to do.
2. There is something beautiful and intimate about a small wedding. Our guests really felt like they were a part of our day. We incorporated our parents, siblings, and grandparents into the ceremony with special readings.
3. Take a long honeymoon. Enjoy the moment.
4. Lastly, marry your best friend and everything falls into place.
Honeymoon: Santorini in the Greek Isles, highly recommended!
